CEC International Conference:

Australia, UK must decide—join with the BRICS, or go down with London and Wall Street

Over the Palm Sunday weekend of 28-29 March 2015, one hundred and fifty people gathered in Melbourne to participate in an international conference sponsored by the Citizens Electoral Council of Australia titled “The World Land-Bridge: Peace on Earth, Good Will towards All Men”. Full transcripts and video recordings are available here.

The conference invitation opened with the following words: “The global financial system is now careening towards a new, far greater breakdown than 2007-08, a reality which drives the escalating threat of thermonuclear world war between the desperate, collapsing trans-Atlantic powers, and Russia and China.”

To elaborate that grim reality, but more importantly to provide a pathway out of it, this extraordinary conference featured presentations from representatives of the BRICS nations of Russia and South Africa, as well as prominent figures in various fields from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, Sweden, and Ukraine, all speaking on the subject of the emergence of the BRICS alliance (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa) as the seed crystal of a new, just world economic and political order.

Former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, who had collaborated with the CEC in campaigns for Glass-Steagall banking separation and war avoidance over the past two years, had hoped to open the conference, until his untimely death on 20 March. After CEC National Secretary Craig Isherwood welcomed the participants, the conference opened with a moment of silence in the memory of Mr. Fraser, and CEC executive member Robert Barwick read the greetings Fraser had delivered to a conference of the international Schiller Institute in Germany in October 2014, in which he admonished that “the most powerful Western nations must realise that there have been great changes in the world,” as embodied in the BRICS, and that “the West must collaborate with them as partners to establish a more just world”, instead of continuing on the present, Anglo-American-led path of confrontation with Russia and China.

Thermonuclear World War, or a New Global Order?

The conference was keynoted by live video from New York by Helga Zepp-LaRouche, founder of the Schiller Institute and widely known in China as “The Silk Road Lady” for her relentless advocacy since the early 1990s of a Eurasian Land-Bridge and New Silk Road, which have together emerged as the World Land-Bridge. Central features of the World Land-Bridge include President Xi Jinping’s formal adoption of the “New Silk Road” and the “Maritime Silk Road” in September 2013, as the centrepiece of China’s global strategic outlook. Zepp-LaRouche stressed that the world is now much closer to nuclear war than even during the Cuban missiles crisis of 1962, and that the only pathway out is the creation of an entirely new global cultural and economic paradigm, typified by the Confucian “win-win” philosophical outlook of global cooperation now governing China.

The conference was privileged to hear in person from Professor Georgy Toloraya, a senior Russian diplomat and former Russian Consul-General in Sydney, who has been Executive Director of the Russian National Committee for BRICS Research since its founding in 2011. Speaking on “The Power of the BRICS Process”, he provided a detailed history of the emergence of the BRICS and some of its future plans. Dr. Toloraya stressed that the BRICS is “not just an economic phenomenon”, but a “fully political project”, an “inter-civilisational union” as the centrepiece of a new, just world order, one premised upon collaboration—not rivalry—with the West.

Three senior figures from the United Kingdom addressed the conference via pre-recorded videos, lending their support to the urgent necessity of Glass-Steagall banking separation to rein in the tyranny and looting of the City of London and Wall Street, and to voice their opposition to the Anglo-American drive for war with Russia. They were senior Labour Party leaders and longtime members of the House of Commons, the Right Honourable Michael Meacher and the Honourable Jeremy Corbyn, and, from the other side of the political spectrum, Robert Oulds, a Conservative Party activist and the director of the anti-EU Bruges Group, which includes a number of prominent Conservative MPs.

Following a detailed account of “The Unfolding Global Financial Crash” by Paul Gallagher, Senior Economics Intelligence Director of the Washington, D.C.-based Executive Intelligence Review, the CEC’s Craig Isherwood and Robert Barwick presented the pathway out of the nightmare with an account of the policies of Alexander Hamilton, America’s first Treasury Secretary and the founder of its first National Bank and system of physical economy, and the enormous success of the Hamilton-modelled Commonwealth Bank of Australia, from its founding in 1912 until its final dismantling in the 1990s. It is precisely these Hamiltonian policies of providing directed credit to industry and agriculture, which the BRICS powers are now using in the creation of their new financial institutions, which include the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the New Development Bank of the BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Bank, the SAC Bank—the bank for the South Asian countries, the new Silk Road Development Fund, and the Maritime Silk Road Fund. Indeed, as Gallagher demonstrated, the City of London and Wall Street received $8 trillion in bailouts since 2007-08, virtually none of which has been invested in the real economy, while China has been the sole source of productive credit in the world since 2008, using it to build, among other things, 16,000 km of high-speed rail since then, dozens of new cities in China itself, and gigantic water projects and other infrastructure, pouring more cement in the last three years than the United States did in the entire 20th century, not to mention the great rail and water projects China has built elsewhere around the world, as documented in Jeremy Beck’s presentation, “China: Great Infrastructure Projects at Home and Abroad”.

In the first presentation on Sunday morning, Dr. Natalia Vitrenko, a leading economist, head of the Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, and a Presidential candidate who drew 11 per cent of the vote in her nation’s 1999 national election, provided a grim counterpoint to the present policies of the BRICS. Since the “independence” of Ukraine in 1991, the City of London/Wall Street-directed IMF had plunged her nation from having one of the world’s ten highest per capita GDPs, to being 60 per cent below the world average. She detailed the deterioration of the economic and political situation for the population, under the latest terms of the International Monetary Fund and the rampages of a government infested by outright neo-Nazis.

UK terror attack before the 7 May election?

Following a presentation by EIR’s Senior Counterintelligence Editor Jeffrey Steinberg, who documented the Anglo-American war drive for world conquest since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, including the establishment of fascist police states in the West through such provocations as the 9/11 attacks, CEC Researcher Glen Isherwood confronted the audience with perhaps its most challenging presentation of the two-day event, “Who is Sponsoring International Terrorism?” Building upon Steinberg’s presentation of the Saudi role in 9/11 through such top Saudi officials as Prince Bandar bin Sultan and Prince Turki al Faisal, Isherwood charged that Charles richly deserves the title of “Chief Executive Officer” of today’s international terrorism. He demonstrated not only that Bandar and Turki are among Prince Charles’s closest friends, but that Charles has intervened with Scotland Yard to stop investigations of their roles in 9/11 by lawyers and investigators for the families of 9/11 victims. Moreover, Charles personally organised then-Saudi King Fahd to finance and build a dozen or more mosques in the UK, some of which, like the notorious Finsbury Park mosque in North London, trained thousands of terrorists under the benevolent eyes of Scotland Yard, MI5 and MI6. In fact, Isherwood showed, Charles counts among the directors and financial contributors to his Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies another half-dozen or so leading Saudi or Qatari sponsors of international terrorism, besides Bandar and Turki.

Given the likelihood of a dramatic shift in government economic policy with a Labour Party/Scottish National Party alliance victory in the UK national election of 7 May as MP Michael Meacher foreshadowed in his speech to the conference—including the likely adoption of Glass-Steagall—Isherwood concluded his presentation with a stark warning: “As you heard yesterday, the 7 May elections in Britain have the potential to be a watershed, both for Britain and for the world, if they result in a Labour Party/Scottish National Party coalition committed to Glass-Steagall, to ending Britain’s nuclear tripwire in the Trident program, and to ditching the Thatcher/Blair/Cameron policies of brutal austerity. So, what would you like to bet, that the period between now and then will see terrorist attacks in Britain, which would benefit the incumbent, City of London, utterly Crown-dominated Conservative government of David Cameron?”
