Bering Strait conference in Moscow hears from LaRouche

A proposal for a tunnel across the Bering Strait from Russia to Alaska, proposed at a Moscow conference on April 24th, has been welcomed by nations across Eurasia from Sweden to Japan.

A contribution by American statesman and economist Lyndon LaRouche, stressing the role of great projects as the path away from war, was read to the opening session of the historic conference in Moscow. Former Governor of Alaska and U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Walter Hickel, addressed the opening session on a similar theme, saying, "We should stop fighting, and build." High-level Russian participants were joined by speakers from Korea, Japan, and the United States, a total of some 200 participants, at the conference entitled "A Transcontinental Eurasia-America Transport Link via the Bering Strait."

LaRouche's contribution to the Moscow conference, an article entitled The World's Political Map Changes: Mendeleyev Would Have Agreed, was read to the meeting by Dr. Jonathan Tennenbaum, and was received with great interest by the Russian participants.

The Bering Strait meeting is the first of a series of conferences called Megaprojects of Russia's East, being organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences Council for the Study of Productive Forces (SOPS), in conjunction with the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MERT), the Russian Ministry of Transport, the state-owned company Russian Railroads, and several regional governments in Siberia and the Russian Far East.
