CEC sets agenda for MDB fight at Narrandera

November 9, 2010

Once again, the LYM/CEC intervention shaped and dominated the MDBA meeting at Narrandera. We handed out flyers at the entrance as people walked in, and our banners were prominent at the showgrounds venue, with many people stopping to look at them. 400-500 people attended, and at times, were just as vocal as in Griffith. When Ian Sinclair told a person to sit down because they said they weren't from Narrandera, everyone in the audience screamed and yelled.

In the Q & A session, Aaron prefaced his question by saying, "The MDBA plan is a fraud. I've been to a few of these meetings and Mike Taylor has described outcomes as being perverse. He should resign and be on this side of the meeting in Canberra [the next MDBA meeting coming up.]

"The Act that setup this authority, was, as Mike Taylor said, based on the Ramsar Convention of 1971. The Ramsar Convention is taking water from farmers globally so that its biggest private sector corporation Bernonni, a French company, can sell us its bottled water, with the name Evian, which I am sure people are familiar with. Ramsar was written by the WWF to lock away land from development by people and clear developed land of people. When the Howard Government passed the 2007 Water Act it was handing Australia's food bowl over to that agenda.

So now, like in many places globally, and all you have to do is look at places like Africa, under 'environmental objectives' land is being cleared of people.

Why is the MDBA covering up the role of the Wentworth Group in formulating this plan? Isn't it because the Wentworth Group is a front for the WWF and its practice of using environmentalism as a cover to clear land of its people, lock it away from human development to achieve their stated objective to cull the human herd?"

The response from Mike Taylor was: "Very important, the Murray Darling Basin Authority is not connected with the WWF or the Wentworth Group, and the reason it uses the Ramsar agreement is because the Parliament, in passing the act, requires us to conform. So its the Australian Parliament that used the Ramsar Act as part of the Water Act requirements."

Aaron followed up, "So really what you're saying is, its not up to you guys, its the government that's trying to depopulate rural Aust, and essentially killing off our food bowl?"

Ian Sinclair tried to move on to the next question, but another LYM member yelled out, "Answer the question!" and was backed up by others in the audience. Ian Sinclair said he already has. The LYM member replied, "No he hasn't".

Mike Taylor, visibly angry that he had to get up and answer the question, said "Look I'm not drawing any conclusions that have been made in terms of the representative who asked the last question, but what I'll explain clearly, is that the reason that the Ramsar agreement is used, which is the wetland agreement, the migratory birds agreement related to Japan China and Korea are used is because the Parliament requires through the Water Act to make sure that we conform with those acts, so it was the Parliament that is setting that requirement. To the extent that you draw other implications 'this all goes back', we have obligations to conform to the Water Act."

Newly elected National Party MP for Riverina, Michael McCormack, described the plan as "a guide to depopulate inland Australia". Although this was said in passing, it reflected our material, and was the most truthful thing any Federal MP has said about the implications of the plan. He also asked what effect this is having on our kids, as they hear their parents talk about the meaning of the plan. Aaron spoke to him after the meeting, giving him a DVD. Aaron made sure he was clear the Ramsar Treaty is the biggest problem. The wetlands Ramsar tries to protect, only exist because of man's infrastructure development.

"You've awoken a sleeping giant," was how Murrumbidgee state MP Adrian Piccolli described the feeling in the region about the MDBA plan, near the end of the meeting in Narrandera. He also mentioned that Alan Jones will present his breakfast radio program from Griffith on November 22 and 23.

What we lead with in one meeting, we find is raised more in questions at the subsequent meeting, ie repealing the Water Act, or the Wentworth Group. Circles discuss it, and raise it at the next one. An Italian farmer talked about the Clarence River scheme, and had our leaflet from Griffith on him when he asked the question.

The LYM spoke to a Hay councillor who recognised the CEC, and was very responsive on water projects, the Clarence and Bradfield, saying we should’ve done this a long time ago. All of the MDB Fraud DVDs were distributed, to a very good response.

The LYM had lunch in town, and as they walked around, they were bombarded with interest. Every store they went into they were recognised. An official from a regional Chamber of Commerce, specifically crossed the road to bail up Aaron while he was eating lunch to encourage us to come along to Alan Jones' broadcast on Nov 22 and 23. He said that "Jones will not have a scripted approach, you'll be picked out of a crowd, Jones wants a broad range of opinion, it'd be good for you guys to come up, what are you doing?"

A regional Mayor also recognised the LYM stopping for a brief chat.

The audience at Narrandera was pretty fired up.
