Boehner: We're in the Middle of a Political Rebellion in America

September 19 (LPAC)—House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio)—one of the few political leaders who has shown a realistic but limited grasp of the mass-strike process under way in the country—acknowledged Wednesday that the recent round of town hall meetings has had a "dramatic" impact on Congress, according to The Hill. And if, as some Democrats say, the town meetings had no impact, then the House would have voted on a health-care bill by now, Boehner added.

In another interview, on PBS's News Hour Wednesday night, Boehner said that the debate is not just about health care, but it's a about "an $800 billion stimulus that was supposed to be about creating jobs, and yet 2.5 million Americans have lost there jobs since." He also cited the Federal deficit, the takeover of the auto companies, and cap-and-trade.

"We are in the middle of a modern-day political rebellion in America," Boehner continued. "I've never seen anything like this. I've been around the country in a number of members' districts, and I've been watching this grassfire grow all year. And the American people, they're concerned about what their government is doing. They know that these trillion-dollar deficits for as far as the eye can see, this is not sustainable. And they're concerned that government here in Washington is getting too big, getting too much control, and they're making their opposition to it known. And all of my colleagues have encountered their citizens more engaged than they've ever seen them."

He described the Sept. 5 Tea Party in West Chester, Ohio, in which 18,000 people participated. "And there were some Democrats there and some Republicans there. But three-fourths of the people there were average Americans who'd never been engaged in the political process, really didn't know much about it, except that they were concerned about where our country was going. And so this conversation that's underway is healthy for our democracy. It was Thomas Jefferson 220 years ago who said, 'A little rebellion now and then is good for our democracy.'"

CBS News on Friday evening presented a more honest report of the Sept. 12 rally in Washington, D.C. than has most of the media. It included a prominent shot of the LaRouche PAC moustache poster with the caption "Is This Your President?" It also showed signs protesting the debt, and cap-and-trade, and participants complaining that they are not being listened to by Washington, and that the "mainstream media" is blacking out the truth of their movement.
