Mass Strike Rally Outdraws Obama Four-Fold in Ohio

September 12, 2009 (LPAC) — While Obama was able to lure a mere 4,000 labor-crats to listen to him speak in Cincinnati on Labor Day, a "Tea Party" event in suburban West Chester Township two days earlier was able to bring out a crowd literally four times that size. On Saturday, Sept. 5, an estimated 18,000 people gathered to hear, question and confront three Congressmen (including House Minority Leader John Boehner) and a state gubernatorial candidate speak. A report in the Middletown Journal indicates that the topics ranged far beyond health care, and included the Afghan war, along with education, the bail-outs, and the more partisan issues of the national debt and term limits.

"I've never seen anything like this," a stunned Boehner said afterward. "These people are scared to death. They're scared that the country they grew up in is not going to be the country their children and grandchildren grow up in."

As one of the organizers noted, the crowd size was all the more notable, since they were competing with football season's opening day, which in Ohio is akin to the Fourth of July. This was on top of an earlier "Tea Party" rally on Aug. 1, which drew 10,000 to the state capitol in Columbus.
