Congress Members Get "Warm" Reception in Home Districts

August 3, 2009 (LPAC)—Just as Lyndon LaRouche said would happen, during his August 1 webcast, Congressmen returning to their home districts over the weekend faced near-lynch mobs, furious over the Congress's capitulation to the Obama Nazi health care plan and their lack of action to halt the economic collapse.

A couple of examples:

* Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) faced an angry reception at a town hall meeting in Austin on Saturday. A video circulating on YouTube shows Doggett being surrounded and followed around by a crowd holding up signs denouncing Obama's health care plan, such as "No Gov't Health Care," "No Socialized Healthcare," "No Gov't Counselor in my Home" (a clear reference to the House bill's provision for euthanasia counseling), and one appearing to display the Nazi SS symbol. According to "All Ablog Austin," witnesses said that when Doggett was asked if he would support the Obama plan even if he found his constituents opposed it, Doggett said he would. "From there, the crowd began chanting 'Just Say No,' and overwhelmed the Congressman as he moved through the crowd and into the parking lot."

* Rep. Patrick Murphy (D-PA) tried to hold meetings to discuss health care etc. with his constituents on a one-on-one basis, telling them "this is not a town meeting," but he quickly found it impossible. According to the Bucks County Courier Times, shouts from an impatient, frustrated crowd forced Murphy and his staff to turn it into a 90-minute, contentious Q&A session in which he was frequently heckled. When Murphy tried to explain that he works with, not for, President Obama, and added, "I happen to think he's doing a pretty great job," the restaurant erupted in a chorus of boos and catcalls. The crowd included single-payer advocates, as well as many opponents of the Obama plan.

* Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) and HHS secretary Kathleen Sebelius were booed and hooted by a crowd of 400 people on Sunday at a Town Hall meeting in Philadelphia. "We can either stand here and shout at one another and we can leave the stage," Sebelius said during what the Philadephia Daily News called "a boisterous showdown between foes and backers of health reform." Responding to a question/statement about Congress not even reading the bill, Specter said "we have to make judgments very fast," and the crowd erupted, shouting him down.
