Dem Progressive Caucus to Pelosi: We are concerned about IMAC

July 31, 2009 (LPAC)—A public letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi by Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Lynn Woolsey and Raul Grijalva, is the latest sign of Democratic revolt against Obama's healthcare bill, whose similarities to Adolph Hitler's 1939 decree, allowing the killing of those with "lives unworthy to be lived," are becoming more obvious by the day. The July 24th letter is a shot across the bow to Pelosi, signaling that not only Republicans are concerned about an unelected body beyond the control of Congress, with the power to decide what healthcare Americans will be allowed — who lives and who dies.

Woolsey's letter informs Pelosi: "We are also concerned about the latest discussion regarding the Independent Medicare Advisory Commission (IMAC). We understand that no final decision has been made. However, if discussions move forward to make IMAC a reality, we ask that you include us in discussion as we have concerns with the governance, oversight, and the impact it would have on seniors, people with disabilities, doctors, and hospitals. Furthermore, we are concerned that IMAC could weaken the public option and negate our responsibilities as Members of Congress."

The letter is signed by Co-chairs Reps. Woolsey (D-Cal.) and Grijalva (D-Ariz.), Health Taskforce Co-Chairs Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill) and Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), and Jerold Nadler (D-N.Y.), Sheila Jackson-Lee (D-Tex.), Donna Edwars (D-Md.) and Jim McDermott (D-Wash.).

At an afternoon press conference held by the Progressive Caucus, Rep. Woolsey announced that 53 members of the Progressive Caucus would vote against the Obama bill in the House.
