Obama's Own Doctor Against "ObamaCare"

June 21, 2009(LPAC)— David Scheiner, a 71 year-old internist, has a practice in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, where he sees a mixture of the famous and the less fortunate. Scheiner, a Princeton graduate who had been Barack Obama's doctor from 1987 until he became President, did not talk to the Senator about health care, since the single time he brought up malpractise, and Obama "took the lawyers' position" on the matter. Although he still considers himself an Obama supporter, Scheiner says, "I'm not really sure [the President] understands what we face in primary care... He doesn't see all the pain, its so tragic out here. Obama's wonderful, but on this one I'm not sure if he's getting the right input." Scheiner, a strong proponent of single-payer system, criticizes HMOs, saying, "its nonsense that the private insurance companies need to be protected [from a public plan]. Why, because they've done such a good job?"

While the criticisms of what Forbes calls "ObamaCare" may not be the strongest, the fact that it was Wall Street-connected Forbes magazine which sought them out, is indicative of the battle LPAC has forced to the surface. Obama's plan can be stopped.
