Is Summers Crowd Out To Get Rid of Hillary?

May 6, 2009 (EIRNS)—The actions of President Obama's economic svengali, Larry Summers, at an Israeli Embassy celebration of Independence Day in Washington, D.C. on April 29, prompted Lyndon LaRouche to put out an alert on the danger that Summers, on behalf of the British crowd, may be moving to oust Hillary Clinton from the Obama Administration. According to Israeli press reports, Summers purported to be giving a message from the President, along the lines that Israel would not be forced to compromise with the Palestinians. The tone of his message contrasted strongly with the policy which has been carried out by Secretary of State Clinton, during her trip to Israel in March, and otherwise.

LaRouche stressed that, if Summers were to be successful, that would be a breaking point for the Administration, posing the question of the need to remove Obama himself.

The degree of the President's support for Summers' action is not yet known.

What is clear is that, in the course of a May 3-5 meeting of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Vice President Joe Biden and National Security Advisor Gen. Jim Jones, delivered tough messages that Israel has to abide by previous agreements made for a Palestinian state. Biden was the Obama speaker at the AIPAC conference, while Jones's statement came out in a leak of an email carried in the Israeli newspaper, Ha'aretz. A third strong statement to the Israelis was delivered by Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) today.

This is all coherent with the foreign policy direction on Southwest Asia put together by Hillary Clinton. But, the survival of that policy is subject to the whims of Obama—as reflected in Larry Summers' insane rant at the Israeli Embassy.

Speaking to AIPAC, both Biden and Kerry gave the obligatory warnings that Iran must not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons, but also were tough on the two-state solution.

Biden said, "Israel has to work toward a two-state solution. You're not going to like my saying this, but not build more settlements, dismantle existing outposts, and allow Palestinians freedom of movement."
