The world's population is still reeling from last year's
natural disasters. Japan, a first-world nation, was
brought to its knees by a magnitude 9.0 earthquake
and subsequent tsunami in March; the US faced a record
number of weather-related disasters; East Africa
was hit with the worst drought in over half a century,
putting 13 million people at risk; and the list goes on.
If we find ourselves so vulnerable to threats which
should be predictable, what hope do we have in the
face of threats never before encountered?
In one sense, such natural disasters cannot be separated
from those of man's making, such as the twin crises
of the collapse of the trans-Atlantic-centered global
financial system and the immediate specter of thermonuclear
war. Both underscore the imperative to redirect
global policy away from the contrived conflicts
of oligarchical manipulation, which have kept mankind
in a state of relative infancy, toward the conscious evolution
of the human species.
Recently, circles in Russia have proposed to judo the
current insanity of a drive towards war by invoking
Lyndon LaRouche’s principle of the Strategic Defense
Initiative (SDI). Termed the Strategic Defense of Earth
(SDE), this new initiative would focus on cooperation
between the USA and Russia for missile defense, as
well as defense against the threat of asteroid or comet
impacts. This is not the stuff of science fiction, as this
very real threat was underscored by the recent nearmiss

The extremely close flyby of near-Earth asteroid 2012 DA14 is a warning to the inhabitants of this planet. Although this particular asteroid will safely miss the Earth, its close approach raises two key challenges. First, what about the hundreds of thousands of asteroids just like 2012 DA14 that we have not yet discovered? Second, how will we defend the Earth when one is on a collision course?
IGMASS: Towards International Collaboration in the Defense of Mankind
Currently, mankind lives on only one planet. We are all subject to similar threats: threats that do not distinguish between nations, religions, political parties or social classes. The only United States participation came from two representatives of the LaRouche Policy Institute, Benjamin Deniston and Jason Ross, who presented the leading political, economic and scientific work of Lyndon LaRouche’s movement in the United States.

Update: Defense of Earth
The "Strategic Defense of Earth" concept, originally proposed six months ago by Dmitri Rogozin, has received renewed attention over the recent weeks from individuals close to president-elect Putin, whose official inauguration as the next President of Russia is scheduled for this coming Monday, May 7th. It should be seen as no coincidence that this increased attention to the defense of earth idea coincides with major coverage of the ideas and personality of Lyndon LaRouche, the original author of the SDI, the model for the SDE.
The SDE & Real Strategic Defense
Every serious nation knows that we cannot have war among major nations ever again. If we go with that level of warfare, in today's age of technology, the whole planet is finished. So what we do, is we go to space. We look at defense of the planet from the top down, and we take the threats from space, from extreme weather, and from silly nations playing war games, and incorporate them into one system, which will defend mankind as a whole. That is the intention behind the latest Russian proposal for a Strategic Defense of the Earth, a space-based system which would guard against missiles – as well as asteroids and other threats from space.

There is no way we can address a food crisis from the standpoint of only producing more food. It will require an upshift of the entire system, which means reviving the commitment to mankind’s extraterrestrial existence.
Mankind’s work in space has fundamentally altered our relationship to food production here on earth. The transformation of agricultural existence from an earth-based view from the ground, to the view of millions of farms over entire continents marked a major shift in mankind’s power over nature.
We now have the foresight to be prepared for severe weather, monitoring crop disease, pest swarms and even transmitting crucial data directly to farmers for precision farming. All of this is done from our space-based capability which is being shut down by President Obama.

A Vernadskian Law of Evolution

Meghan Rouillard, of LPAC's Basement Research team, has just completed a new translation of a paper by Vladimir Vernadsky, called "The Evolution of Species and Living Matter", from 1928. In this video, she reviews a central concept of this paper, called the biogenic migration of atoms, which refers to the transformation of material by life and the consequent restructuring of the environment. This process increases throughout evolution, in correlation with the upwards progression of species.
However, as Vernadsky shows, a new class of this action emerged with Man, who supersedes mere metabolism, achieving a far greater transformation of material and his environment with his powers of thought, of the type which would be manifested by great projects such as NAWAPA and the manned colonization of space.
