CEC exposes Australia’s role in NATO expansion against China

In an article prepared for the 8 February edition of the international Executive Intelligence Review journal, the Citizens Electoral Council has exposed the British hand in the drive to expand NATO into a global military alliance. Australia is central to Britain’s NATO strategy.

The push for an Asian NATO is targeted squarely at China, in the same way that NATO has aggressively encircled post-Soviet Russia in recent years. Leading Chinese officials have pointedly and repeatedly denounced this “Cold War” mentality.

The EIR report, datelined 1 February, was given heightened significance by the 1-3 February Munich Security Conference, where NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen declared that in the post-Afghanistan phase of its operations NATO would “respond to crises whenever, and wherever, the Allies judge their security interests are at stake.” Discussing the “rebalancing” of NATO (including an “open door” to new members) Rasmussen emphasised that NATO must “live up to our role as the political forum for transatlantic consultations on common security concerns, including on those that lie beyond the Euro-Atlantic area.” [emphasis added]

The common security concerns to which Rasmussen referred were elaborated by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, on 3 February, in a BBC television interview. The leading advocate for ending the Treaty of Westphalia principle of the sovereignty of nation states, and the key influence over President Obama on behalf of the British Crown, Blair effectively advocated a return to the horror of the 30 Years War that only ended with the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia, by calling for a “generation of war” against al-Qaeda and other jihadist groups all over the globe. The architect of the lies of the Iraq war uttered a self-fulfilling prophecy that the global war on terror would be similar to the 45-year Cold War between the West and the Soviet Union.

The target of this strategy is not al-Qaeda, but the Anglo-Americans’ geopolitical rivals China and Russia, both of whom reject the Blair doctrine of “Responsibility to Protect” as a fraudulent pretext for trashing the principle of national sovereignty through imperial “regime change” operations. The Russians and Chinese know the British and Obama actively fostered, directly and through their Saudi allies, the al-Qaeda terrorist network to topple and kill Qaddafi in Libya, and repeat the operation in Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made this clear at the same Munich Security Conference. He cautioned that another world war must be prevented, but that it will not happen “by promoting a NATO-centric security concept, as though there were no alternatives.” He insisted upon the current standard of international law that there cannot be any military interventions outside of the UN Security Council (UNSC) mandate.
