Don’t be naive, Netanyahu wants WWIII

Israel’s latest offensive into Gaza is a prelude to a planned attack on Iran.

Lyndon LaRouche’s magazine Executive Intelligence Review has warned for months that an Israeli attack on Gaza is a piece of at least one version of the war plan that Israel has mapped out against Iran. Sources close to the Israeli military have repeatedly told EIR that such an attack demands the elimination of both Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon as prerequisite. This is the only way to subdue retaliatory attacks against Israel when they attack Iran.

The recent military action between Israel and Palestine was escalated to fever pitch by the Israeli assassination of Ahmed Ja’abari on 14 November, the military leader of Hamas, and the central figure in thrashing out a peace agreement between Palestine and Israel. Hours before his assassination, Ja’abari had received a draft peace agreement, to be checked and then presented to Israeli officials later that day. According to Israeli peace activist, Gershon Baskin, who mediated that agreement on the Israeli side, “The key actor on the Hamas side was Ahmed Ja’abari … When he was convinced that Israel was ready to stand down as well, Ja’abari was always ready to take the orders to force the ceasefire on all of the other factions and on Hamas.” (The Daily Beast, Nov. 15)

The moves by Israel have been backed by US President Barack Obama, and have taken their cue from British PM David Cameron. Iraq war criminal Tony Blair is also right in the thick of it, as a special envoy to the Middle East.

Within hours of President Obama’s re-election, Cameron moved to pull the Middle East trigger on a global war, touring Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Jordan to announce plans to overthrow the Bashar Assad government in Syria and boosting arms shipments, including heavy weaponry, to the Syrian rebels.

In an 18 November Bangkok press conference, President Obama defended Israel, saying that “Israel has every right to expect that it does not have missiles fired into its territory. If that can be accomplished without a ramping-up of military activity in Gaza, that’s preferable.” He put the onus on ending the conflict squarely on Palestine’s shoulders, saying that “if we’re serious about wanting to resolve this situation and create a genuine peace process, it starts with no more missiles being fired into Israel’s territory.”

Obama did not mention the fact that Israel had killed the figure crucial to any peace negotiation on the Palestinian side.

In the 17 November Daily Beast Mark Perry, an American who was involved in negotiating an end to the second Intifada, reflected on a similar 2002 assassination of the key Hamas leader at the time, Salah Shehadeh, who was about to add his signature—the final one—to a draft ceasefire agreement. The next morning Perry was accused of being naive by an Israeli official who said, “Mr Perry, you don’t seem to understand. We don’t want a ceasefire.”

Why might the Netanyahu government want war? Gershon Baskin asked this question in an 18 November Ha’aretz article. “They certainly knew that killing Ja’abari would for sure bring on new rocket attacks, which to the Israeli public would then seem a legitimate reason for a new war in self-defense.”

The CEC exposed the larger agenda afoot in its last two New Citizen newspapers [June/July 2012, Oct/Nov/Dec 2012] which is the British-Obama intention to force Russia and China into a thermonuclear showdown, as the London-centred globalist financial system disintegrates. Russia and China are both fiercely protective of their sovereignty, and their commitment to economic development creates the potential for a new global economic order based on cooperation around infrastructure development and technological progress that is a threat to the monetary imperialism of London and Wall Street. The British and their stooge Obama are determined to destroy that threat. They are demanding regime change in Syria, and backing Netanyahu’s war-drive against Iran, as proxies for their determination to force an escalation against Russia and China. One of Netanyahu’s leading supporters in Australia, federal ALP MP Michael Danby (an admirer of Jewish fascist Vladimir Jabotinsky whose personal secretary was Netanyahu’s father—see The New Citizen) is also the loudest Australian voice demanding “regime change” in China. The Russians and Chinese know the threat against them is nuclear: back on 25 September, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov gave the grim assessment on U.S. television that the Anglo-American actions in the Middle East which Russia opposes had turned the Arab Spring into the “Arab Autumn”: “I hope it’s not going to the nuclear winter,” he warned.
