Isherwood: Australian food production is a national emergency

The stepped-up onslaught of British free trade and green fascism on Australian food production is crushing the family farms and small businesses that provide Australia’s food security, leaving Australia facing a national food emergency, declared Citizens Electoral Council leader Craig Isherwood today.

“Australian food production is under attack on all fronts,” Isherwood said, noting in particular the cases of the Murray-Darling Basin, the Coral Sea marine park, the cattle industry, and foreign corporate buy-ups:

  • Water Minister (and Wilderness Society zealot) Tony Burke’s determination to ram through the Murray-Darling Basin Authority Plan is crippling Australia’s most important region for food production. The MDBA Plan is setting the banks loose to mass-foreclose on farms and businesses across the Basin, forcing the farmers to sell their water “voluntarily” to the government, to meet the demands of the Ramsar Convention cooked up by Prince Philip’s World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
  • The impending lock-down of one million square kilometres of the Coral Sea from fishing, along with other areas of southwest and northwest Australia and South Australian waters, will smash the nation’s fishing industry. Tony Burke acknowledged on the 5th December 2011 ABC TV 7.30 program that the lockdown was pre-emptive, because fishing hasn’t damaged the Coral Sea: “We’re not going to wait for everything to be endangered… We will end up with the largest area in the world having a significant level of protection.” The lock-down was demanded by an eco-fascist alliance dominated by the British Crown’s own Australian Conservation Foundation, WWF, Wilderness Society and the Nature Conservancy, and including the oil industry-funded Pew Environment Group. The Coral Sea marine park and others planned in Australian waters, effectively locks down most of Australia’s fisheries, and means that Australia accounts for an incredible 45 per cent of all marine protected areas in the world, all the while importing fish from much poorer nations such as Thailand.
  • The carnage in Australia’s cattle industry following last year’s live export ban to Indonesia, was credited to the fruit-loops in Animals Australia, but was actually orchestrated by the British Crown’s economic hit-man George Soros (whose Quantum Fund boasts the Queen as one of its 99 exclusive investors) through his Australian front GetUp. Similar to the MDB, the short-lived ban has been enough to unleash the banks to foreclose on the heavily-indebted cattle producers, which even includes the Mayor of Richmond in North Queensland. Following Indonesia’s announcement that it is halving its import quota from Australia, many hundreds of cattle producers are in crisis.
  • Corporate and foreign agribusiness is snapping up prime Australian farmland and food production infrastructure at an increasing rate, and the flagships of the Anglo-Dutch raw materials cartel—the Queen’s own Rio Tinto, BHP Billiton and Xstrata—are being allowed to elbow food production aside as they strip-mine Australia for coal.

“Free trade and green fascism are British imperial inventions that have crippled industries and the nations that depend on those industries, forcing the world into the City of London-dictated imperialism of globalisation”, Isherwood said.

“To maintain imperial control as globalisation implodes, the British Crown has put its genocidal population-reduction agenda into overdrive, and Australia’s food producers are right in the firing line.”

Isherwood called on all Australians to join the fight to save Australia’s precious food industries.

“This fight is not about businesses being successful; it is about defending the right of human beings to exist”, he said.

“The CEC stands for protection and parity pricing for agriculture, a national bank to direct credit to expand production, and economic development projects in water, transport and energy infrastructure to reverse the green drive to turn Australia into desolate wilderness. We can then achieve Australia’s potential as a food bowl for the world.”
