LaRouche Youth declare: Nationalise Our Resources
The fever of leveraged buy-outs - particularly even the thought of
the world's biggest mining company, BHP Billiton, owning the world's 2nd biggest
Rio Tinto, which would create one of the biggest companies in the world, owning
our natural resources - must be frozen through a government buy-out of
Australia's resource sector.
In order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic
tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and
secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, we must
nationalise Australia's raw materials resources. Australia has the worlds
largest demonstrated reserves of brown coal, lead, mineral sands (rutile and
zircon), nickel, zinc, tantalum, and uranium, and possibly the largest reserves
of thorium.
Given the imminent danger of a collapse of the world financial system as
recently warned of by IMF Chief Rodrigo Rato - a system shaking under the weight
of unregulated hedge-fund expansion and mergers and acquisitions, such as the
rumoured BHP Billiton takeover of Rio Tinto - it is only common sense that a
nation move to promote measures to secure national sovereignty.
As Lyndon LaRouche writes in "Where the Future Lies" , the future of economic
policy lies in ensuring that Russia, China, India and the United States are
co-operating in advances in technological progress, such as nuclear fission and
fusion power , to move humanity through its self-imposed technological
boundary-condition of a fossil fuel economy, towards an isotope economy. Who
will own the resources when the breakdown in the financial system leads to
chaos? Will it be the banks with a vested interest in hedge funds, or sovereign
governments representing the people?
We are all becoming increasingly aware of the consequences of neglect of the
welfare of our nation and its people by Labor and Liberal Governments, which
therefore means that a fundamental policy shift must be made to secure the
wealth of our resources, and our future.
These resources are necessary both to develop Australia, and to ensure that
we can fulfill our historic mission of helping our neighbours in Asia, 70% of
whom still live in poverty. This would "define a new destiny for Australia" as
LaRouche remarked in a speech on February 24th, 2007 .
That mission can be achieved through a crash program of job creation through
infrastructure development for scientists and engineers to build nuclear-powered
desalination plants, dams, and magnetically-levitated rail systems, like Japan
has announced, which will launch the greatest period of optimism in our nation's
history, and grow our population to 50 million people.
The necessary path to achieve that is to nationalise our resources. The bold
leadership of the Whitlam Government, who planned to take back the country's
resources to implement a national infrastructure development program, serves as
a precedent today. The LaRouche Youth Movement in Australia challenges all
political parties and candidates to commit to this policy for the next Federal
Election, and demands that our Government adopts measures now to bring our
entire resource sector under Government ownership.
