Glass-Steagall Continues To Stay in the Headlines
June 5, 2014 • 11:33AM

Beyond LaRouche PAC's own aggressive international campaign for the restoration of Glass-Steagall, other notable U.S. figures and international media outlets are continuing to keep Glass-Steagall front and center in the headlines.

On June 2nd, Counter Punch ran an interview with Paul Craig Roberts focusing mainly on Roberts's books, The Failure of Laissez Faire Capitalism and How America Was Lost. Roberts goes right to the issue of the repeal of Glass-Steagall: "It was done by the banks, which essentially purchased enough 'Think Tanks' with grants and donations, and enough university faculty—with grants and donations and speaking opportunities—and purchased enough Senators and Congressmen to get the Glass-Steagall Act repealed — and this was a fundamental error!"

The UK Progressive, a blog which is a mixture of US and UK bloggers covering mostly US developments, features an article called, "Obama's Sin, Clinton's Choice," and opens by stating, "The original sin of the Obama presidency is that the man who was elected in 2008 on an eloquent promise to change the way Washington works, close the revolving door of special interests and transform the way government functions, never really meant it and never tried to do it."

The author, Brent Budowsky, who spent much of his early career as a Hill staffer, goes on to say that "Americans are tired and Democrats are depressed by Obama fatigue," and "as the party of Roosevelt and Kennedy is gravely endangered in 2014 by a surplus of Democrats who may not vote, as Hillary Clinton embarks on a book tour that could reveal which hard choices she is prepared to make, a great battle has begun for the heart and soul of the Democratic Party and the political future of the nation."

Mincing no words when it comes to what a failure Obama is, Budowsky says, "Obama cannot blame his predecessor, Republicans or Congress for his original sin of continuing the old politics of insider Washington. He owns his own revolving door. This is a major reason the word 'Obama' is most often associated with 'disappointment.'"

Budowsky concludes with a list of questions to Clinton as she begins to tour the country with her new book, Hard Choices. The first question is, "Do you support bringing back Glass-Steagall?" and the final question is, "Do you stand with Geithner or Warren on the great matter of economic justice in our age."
