Blowback on Olympics Fiasco: Narcissus Exposed; Will Jarrett be Forced Out?

Oct. 5 (LPAC)—There are dozens of attacks in articles and TV broadcasts today on Obama's flight forward on the Chicago 2016 Olympics, ridiculing his—and his wife's—ego-trips. These attacks are coming from the right and left. LaRouche commented that this is "good, it's background noise" that "brings the issue more quickly into focus." LaRouche immediately asked, "Is anybody going after the swindle?" No, that is our job.

The Hill newspaper on Oct. 3 said that this even puts the health care bill at risk. Losing the Chicago bid "has weakened the White House's political standing at a time when it is trying to strong-arm a healthcare bill through Congress," wrote The Hill.

The Examiner.com of Washington says the "biggest losers" are Mayor Richard Daley and Senior Adviser Valerie Jarrett. It says that Jarrett is "looking very politically vulnerable" because Washington Democrats were already jealous and wary of her close relationship with Obama. She is "scrambling" to deflect the blame for the Copenhagen decision away from herself. "The intelligence that we had from the U.S. Olympic Committee and the Chicago bid team was that it was very close ... The message was that ... a personal appeal from the president would make a huge difference." (Bad intelligence — maybe it was that UN meeting with Blair.)

Speaking on ABC-TV's "This Week," conservative George Will said, "What's alarming is whether it indicates a belief by the president that there is no problem that will not melt before the sunshine of his charm...." He said that the egotism of both Obamas was BIG, with Michelle using the first person—I, me, my—34 times in 16 paragraphs, with Obama a close second with 24 references to himself. "The president and the first lady went to Copenhagen and gave little speeches about themselves. ... The danger to the president is that `vain' is going to attach to him" as "Honest" is to Abe, and "Tricky" is to Dick.

Liberal columnist Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post blogged: "I told you so ... the U.S. president is always seen at international gatherings as the ultimate Bigfoot, and nobody likes to be Bigfooted. Chicago used the Powell Doctrine of `overwhelming force' to try to win, but in this context the deployment of presidential power and charisma only served to invite a comeuppance...." Bloggers added some angry comments, such as: "When Obama showed up with his oversized ego, his `international rock star presence' (per the Today Show) and his silly teleprompter, Chicago dropped out of the running.... The personality cult schtick is wearing thin." Another comment blamed the Moustache: "The world is watching you put Hitler's moustache on your President's face ..."

The Chicago-based "Richard's Blog" says that Axelrod, "The Ax," is livid: "David Axelrod, the chief strategist for Obama's 2008 presidential campaign and Senior Advisor to President Obama blamed dishonest backroom politics for rigging the decision. `We thought it was all set. There's no way we would've let the President and First Lady expose themselves to such an overtly public show if we didn't think it was already a done deal. We've been double-crossed. We won't forget."
