LaRouche Welcomes Union Opposition to Obama's and Baucus's Nazi-Like Health Reform

October 15, 2009 (LPAC)—Lyndon LaRouche welcomed the action of 27 US labor unions which have defied White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to come out in opposition to the so-called health reform bill passed yesterday in Max Baucus's Senate Finance Committee.

The 27 unions and union federations, led by the AFL-CIO, took out a full-page ad in Washington newspapers that said that the Baucus measure was "deeply flawed," and that unless "substantial" changes were made in it, they will urge their members to seek its defeat on the Senate floor.

Gerald McEntee, president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), one of the 27 unions, told Bloomberg that White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel had called him and AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka during September, and asked them not to go public with their opposition while the Finance Committee was still negotiating the bill. "We didn't talk to any senators about our opposition," he said.

But then Emanuel pressed them again last week, not to oppose the bill once it was approved by the committee. "That was not the commitment we made," said McEntee.

The Service Employees International Union, led by George Soros tool Andy Stern, didn't sign the ad,— no surprise. Bloomberg says that the Teamsters and the IBEW were included in a draft of the advertisement, but didn't sign onto the final version.
