A/H1N1 Virus Will Kill 'Millions' in Poor Nations, UN Report Warns

September, 21 (LPAC)—A United Nations report leaked to Britain's Observer warns that the A/H1N1 pandemic could kill millions of people, and unleash anarchy in developing nations, unless industrialized nations provide at least £900 million to pay for the cost of anti-virals and vaccines.

The report, which was commissioned last July by UN Secretary- General Ban Ki-moon, makes the key point that poor nations lacking basic infrastructure—potable water, electricity, sanitation, transportation, and communications—and already overwhelmed by such diseases as tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/Aids and others, are looking at disaster, when large numbers of their populations are stricken with the A/H1N1 virus.

"If suppliers of fuel, food, telecommunications, finance or transport services have not developed plans as to how they would continue to deliver their services, the consequences could be significantly intensified," the report states.

This underscores the urgency of immediately forcing through Lyndon LaRouche's proposal for creation of a new global credit system, as well as emergency measures to address the health and other infrastructure crisis.

The UN report was sent to health ministers around the world on Sept. 17. It details the urgent basic needs of 75 vulnerable nations whose capacity to withstand an escalation of the virus is weakest. This includes six countries in Ibero-America, including Cuba and Bolivia; 21 countries in Asia and the Pacific, including North Korea and Bangladesh; and 40 countries in Africa.

UN officials say the highest priority for spending £700 million is the purchase of anti-virals and vaccine.
