Nazi Images Featured on Internet Video Coverage of Obama Health Plan

July 21, 2009 (LPAC)—Betsy McCaughey, former Lt. Governor of New York under George Pataki, did an interview with former GOP candidate, former Sen. Fred Thompson on July 16, warning that the House healthcare bill is a "dangerous assault on the elderly," aimed at denying treatment to older people. In an internet video version of the interview, which was originally audio-only, someone combined it with photos of Nazis which are shown throughout the whole 8-minute interview, beginning with one of Auschwitz Kommandant Richard Baer (who also participated in the T-4 program).

In the interview, McCaughey points out that Obama's projected "savings" will not come from eliminating waste and fraud, but comes from cutting patient care. She gives as an example the provisions on p. 425 of the House bill [see below] which she says mandates that Medicare recipients undergo a counselling session every five years on how to end their life sooner by declining treatment such as hydration, entering a hospice, etc., and if you get cancer, you have to undergo the session again to be told how to cut your life short. McCaughey also attacks the Comparative Effectiveness Research provision which was slipped into the stimulus bill, which she calls "code for denying treatment" bases on age, and she cites the withholding of treatment in England based on CER; she says that "Obama will get savings by shortening your mother's or father's life." She also attacks Ezekiel Emanuel who has written that people with incurable or irreversible conditions, like dementia, should not be given basic health services.

McCaughey: She is the head of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths, as well as having helped lead the fight against the Clinton health reform. She is now with the free marketeer Hudson Institute, and runs the website defendyourhealthcare.us.

Her citation of the House bill's Sec. 1233 "Advance Care Planning Consultation," does bear out what she says. While the bill is made deliberately obscure, by constant references to previous legislation, this section speaks of a requirement that a practitioner discuss with a patient living wills, durable power of attorney, explain end-of-life services including palliative care and hospice, explain "orders regarding life sustaining treatment," including the use of antibiotics and "artificially administered nutrition and hydration." This requirement appears to be limited for the moment to states which have in effect a set of procedures and legal requirements for such orders for life-sustaining treatment. This section also requires that a section on advance-care planning and advance directives be included in the basic "Medicare & You Handbook" published by HHS.

Precisely such a ghoulish plan was promoted by none other than former Sen. Tom Daschle in early June, when he, Orszag, and others around the Obama Administration were beginning their drive for Nazi health care.
