The Rest of the British Agenda for Obama: Starve Out the Elderly!

June 30, 2009 (LPAC)—The same June 27-July 3 London Economist whose cover shows Obama with a six-inch needle under the title "Reforming Health Care: This Is Going to Hurt," also features a "special report on aging populations," which says this "problem" is far more serious than the financial crisis.

"People in rich countries will have to be weaned off the expectation that pensions will become ever more generous and health care ever more all-encompassing," they write. "Since they now live so much longer, and mostly in good health, they will have to accept that they must also work for longer and that pensions will be smaller.

"Will the recession make it easier or harder to introduce the required reforms? If people are feeling poorer, they may think that their government should do more for them, not less. Yet some say that if everything is in a state of upheaval already, change becomes easier to bring about. They cite a phrase currently much used in the Obama White House: 'Never waste a good crisis.'"

A subsequent section of the report is entitled, "Scrimp and Save: Pensions Will Have To Become Far Less Generous." The one which follows it is entitled, "Work Till You Drop: Retirement Has Gotten Out of Hand."
